InMode Fractora is a transformative new fractional device that delivers radiofrequency energy deep beneath the skin’s surface to address a range of skin conditions at once, including:
- Active cystic acne
- Acne scars
- Pigmentation
- Large pores
- Textural issues or irregularities
- Crepey skin
- Aging skin
- Skin laxity, particularly in the neck, jawline areas, knees, elbows and buttocks
- Fine lines and wrinkles
Ideal for non-surgical, non-invasive skin rejuvenation, Fractora stimulates the formation of new collagen through microchannels of energy, prompts subdermal skin tightening, and improves the skin’s elasticity for remarkable short-term and long-term results. According to InMode, the outcomes include “improvement in skin complexion, reduction in skin irregularities and restoring skin to a more youthful appearance.” Fractora has also been shown to improve acne scarring up to 50%.
Fractora Radiofrequency Skin Remodeling is deeper than most microneedling treatments (we call it “microneedling on steroids”), allowing Dr. Emer to address more than the superficial layers of the skin.
How does it work?
With two pin densities available (24 pins at 3 mm depth, or 60 pins at 1 mm depth) and various energy strength settings, Fractora Radiofrequency Skin Remodeling treatments are tailored to each patient’s unique needs and comfort level.
Keeping the skin flat and taut, Dr. Emer and his Physician Assistants aestheticians create a stamping pattern over the treatment area—either in single or double pulses, depending on the desired intensity level—until minimal pinpoint bleeding is visible; pinpoint bleeding is an indicator that the pins are delivering high-energy radiofrequency to the dermis layer of the skin, creating collagen synthesis, evening the skin’s texture, and remodeling the skin.
For patients who require an even deeper treatment, want additional improvement, have more advanced scarring, or are looking for more substantial skin tightening of the face, neck or body, InMode Morpheus8 can achieve up to 4 mm of depth (as compared to 3 mm with Fractora) and delivers thermal energy 5 mm beneath the skin’s surface. The results of both the InMode Fractora and the InMode Morpheus8 are evident in both the short- and long-term. Skin tightening occurs immediately upon treatment application but can also continue to improve over the course of 12 weeks.
Is it safe for everyone?
Fractora Radiofrequency Skin Remodeling is safe on all skin types with little risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) as compared to lasers, particularly for those with darker skin types, mixed ethnicities, or extremely sensitive skin. Regardless, when treating patients with darker skin tones, our aestheticians will prepare the skin with a lightening peel, such as Reve Skin Enlighten Mask or Cosmelan Peel, to help suppress pigment production and ensure a safer and more effective treatment.
Fractora is also available in both coated and uncoated tips. Uncoated tips are intended for lighter skin types while coated tips are ideal for darker skin tones and those susceptible to hyperpigmentation with any energy-based therapy. This protective coating spares the skin’s surface from receiving excessive radiofrequency energy, further reducing the risk of PIH and allowing for more frequent treatments.
How does Dr. Emer do it differently?
A pioneer of combination approaches to address various skin and body conditions, Dr. Jason Emer uses Fractora as a complement to other treatments and procedures, including lasers, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), stem cells, and an assortment of peels, to achieve never-before-seen outcomes and provide substantial textural skin improvements.
For the treatment of stubborn acne scars, Dr. Emer will often combine Fractora with complementary lasers and peels as well as weekly or bi-monthly microneedling treatments with PRP.
Dr. Emer and his Physician Assistants will use Fractora or Morpheus8 immediately after any number of surgical and nonsurgical procedures, including breast lifts, liposuction, and internal heating with devices like Inmode BodyTite and Renuvion (J Plasma) radiofrequency helium plasma, to promote more instant skin tightening through all layers of the skin.
Dr. Emer often combines Fractora with the Clear + Brilliant laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy to brighten the skin’s complexion and address hyperpigmentation issues such as hormonal and stress-related pigmentation (melasma) as well as sun damage.
When combined with the ablative CO2, Erbium, or Fraxel Laser Resurfacing, Dr. Emer is able to address multiple layers of the skin—both the deep and the superficial—in a single session to get both tightening and brightening results.
Fractora Radiofrequency Skin Remodeling is the perfect follow-up treatment to Neck Liposuction procedures, providing additional neck skin tightening from the top down. For patients who opt for the non-surgical InMode FaceTite “Mini Facelift and Necklift,” Dr. Emer will later use the Fractora or Morpheus8 to maintain the results of the procedure.
When injectable fillers such as Bellafill are used to plump up depressed, atrophic acne scars and stimulate collagen production in the injected areas, Fractora can then soften and break down the thickened scar tissue.
Fractora Radiofrequency Skin Remodeling is also an effective preventive treatment that can delay the inevitable signs of aging, including tightening the muscle and preventing crepey skin around the eyes and above the eyelid.
Is it painful?
Fractora is deeper than a standard microneedling treatment, delivering energy to the dermal layer of the skin, so it can be painful for some, but typically the pain is minimal. To alleviate pain, Dr. Emer and his staff can apply topical numbing cream, pre-ice, give oral medications, or inject nerve blocks into the treatment area. When prepped with numbing medication, most patients report the sensation of light needle pricks in the skin and heat in the treatment area. During the treatment, we can offset the heat with a handheld Zimmer cooling device to desensitize the skin (see below).
What is the downtime?
Downtime varies depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment and the strength of the radiofrequency energy setting. For the most part, patients experience minimal downtime with 1 to 3 days of redness, mild swelling, and a rough, sandpaper feeling on the skin that can last for 1 to 2 weeks.
For patients who benefit from multiple Fractora treatments, we recommend sessions every 4 to 6 weeks to allow for adequate healing between procedures. As with most treatments in our office, the Fractora has a cumulative effect: More sessions means more improvement.
What is the after care protocol?
Following the Fractora Radiofrequency Skin Remodeling procedure, Dr. Emer and his expert aestheticians recommend a soothing skin care protocol to accelerate healing and minimize downtime, including:
- a Vitamin B & C mask to be applied immediately after treatment
- RestorSea Pro Foaming Cleanser, a lightening and brightening cleanser that is safe for all skin types and can be used on both the face and body
- Sente Dermal Repair Cream, a powerful 3-in-1 product that improves skin firmness; diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; and enhances skin tone, giving mature, photo-aged skin a rejuvenated, youthful radiance
- Jan Marini Skin Zyme, an exfoliating mask that digests dead epidermal cells and accelerates improvements related to skin rejuvenation, acne, hyperpigmentation and scar reduction (best when paired with Jan Marini Clean Zyme face cleanser)
- ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica SPF 50+, a Broad Spectrum sunscreen with DNA Repairsomes™, UVB/UVA protection, and antioxidants that shields your skin from actinic damage and sunburns
- Topicals such as AnteAge GF Serum (a pro healing formula that reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, redness and sensitivity), PRP, and ACell stem therapy to continue cellular turnover and heal all of the micro-injuries caused in treatment
