Facial implants are not right for everyone. Children under the age of 16 are not good candidates for facial implants, as their facial structure is still developing. Facial implants are also not recommended for older patients with considerable bone loss in the treatment area.

What to Expect During Facial Implant Surgery
Facial implant surgery typically takes about two hours. The length of your surgery will depend on the number of implants being placed and the complexity of your specific procedure.
To begin, the plastic surgeon will mark the treatment area, making a map for the surgery. Next, general anesthesia will be administered.
The plastic surgeon can then make the necessary incision(s) for placing your facial implant(s). The implant is then inserted via the incision and carefully positioned in the facial tissue. The surgeon will close the incision(s) to complete the procedure.
What to Expect After Facial Implant Surgery
Dr. Emer and his team will guide you through the recovery process by providing personalized aftercare guidelines. In general, patients need about a week off of work to recover and best support the body’s healing process in the initial days after the surgery.
Tenderness and tightness in the treatment area can be expected after facial implant surgery. Medications can be prescribed to minimize post-operative discomfort. You may be instructed to wear a compression garment to promote optimal healing and protect your new facial shape.
You may need to restrict your diet in the early stage of your recovery. A liquid diet may be recommended for a day or two after your procedure, followed by a diet of soft foods for several more days.
Follow-up appointments should be scheduled to allow Dr. Emer and his team to monitor your healing progress. As the area heals, you will be able to gradually return to all of your normal activities, as directed.
